I read the post recently about getting a Fiesta ST as a rental. I’ve got a couple trips coming up for work and I was wondering - what’s the best rental car company for enthusiasts? Even if you have to just work your way up.

Probably Hertz. Last time I was in Austin they had a GT-R.

Touro (used to be called RelayRides).
Its an app that lets people rent their cars out to other people. Its also cheaper than the traditional rental companies. (I rented an 08 BMW 335i Manual convertible for $100/day+insurance in San Francisco)
And because the cars aren’t a part of some fleet, you can find way more cooler and manual cars.
Only down side is that it is available only in select cities.

+1 for Turo/RelayRides. We rented a Boxster S out of SFO for our trip to Rennsport, was less than half of what renting one from Hertz or Budget would have cost

Also, what about Silvercar? Their entire fleet is all silver Audi A4's. I mean A4's aren’t all that exciting but they are a better driving car than the usual mix of Mirages, Altimas, and Escapes I end up with at Avis. And at least you know exactly what you’ll have. They are in over 10 cities now I think.

Sixt
Compared to the boring cars that fill the lots of Hertz and Enterprise,
Sixt has some pretty fun and ‘throwable’ cars. For example, they have a whole fleet of A3s, CLA, and 2-series. They even have a fleet of E-Class and 5series if you so wish

Thanks. Just checked it for my next trip - looks like there isn’t a ton of availability in Denver but I’ll keep in mind for bigger cities. I already live in the SF area where that’s the best.
It looks like one of my credit cards gets me upgrades to elite (or whatever the highest program is) on several car rental agencies. I might give that a go.

The Budget by me seems to avoid normal rentals.
They had brand new S60s and XC70s being rented out not too long ago.
Also two Mustang Gts (one drop top) with manuals.
Ive seen Hyundai Genesis, Nissan 370Z, even some 2 door Wranglers being rented before...

Getaround is pretty great, sounds like the same concept as Touro. Other people rent out their cars to you for a set price per day, or per mile. Pretty great selection, last I checked there was both an R8 and a Prius in the same town. Oh and I happen to know one of the founders, so i might be slightly biased.

Cool :)
If you plan on using it, take a look at a post I made earlier. This is assuming that only the name of the app has changed and everything else is the same...
